During the second match of IPL 2009, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) clashed with Rajasthan Royals (RR). This edition of the tournament was held in South Africa due to general elections in India that year.

Kevin Pietersen, the captain of RCB, won the toss and elected to bat first. However, RCB found themselves in trouble early on at 17/3. Pietersen, along with Rahul Dravid, stabilized the innings with a 35-run partnership, but Pietersen fell after a promising start.

Virat Kohli entered the fray with RCB struggling at 52/4 in 8.5 overs. His innings, however, was short-lived as Shane Warne dismissed him in the 12th over. Kohli, attempting to come down the track and flick the ball, was deceived by Warne’s flight, resulting in his stumps being rattled.

The Match Outcome

Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Rahul Dravid played a crucial knock, scoring 66 runs and guiding RCB to a respectable total of 133/8 in 20 overs. Dimitri Mascarenhas was the pick of the bowlers for RR, claiming three wickets, while Warne and Munaf Patel took two each.

In response, RR’s batting lineup collapsed miserably in pursuit of 134 runs. Anil Kumble wreaked havoc, taking a sensational five-wicket haul as RR were bundled out for just 58 runs in 15.1 overs.
