Mitchell Starc’s Playful Challenge to Travis Head

In the IPL 2024 final, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Mitchell Starc jokingly challenged SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter Travis Head to take strike after the first ball, knowing Head had struggled against him before. Head was dismissed by Starc in their previous match, so Abhishek Sharma faced the first ball instead. However, Starc bowled Abhishek out quickly, putting SRH on the backfoot. On his way back to bowl, Starc humorously gestured for Head to face him next. Unfortunately for SRH, Head was dismissed for a golden duck by Vaibhav Arora in the second over. SRH were bowled out for just 113 runs, and KKR chased it down in 10.3 overs, winning their third IPL title.

Starc’s Experience and Performance

Overcoming Expectations

Mitchell Starc, the most expensive buy in IPL history at ₹24.75 crore, admitted that being older and more experienced helped him handle the pressure. Despite struggling during the league stage, he excelled in the playoffs, earning Player of the Match honors in both Qualifier 1 and the final.

Key Performances

In Qualifier 1 and the final, Starc’s opening spells were crucial for KKR’s victories. He took 3/34 in Qualifier 1 and 2/13 in the final, finishing the tournament with 17 wickets at an average of 26.11 in 14 matches. Starc’s performance, despite initial struggles, was pivotal in KKR’s championship win.
