Watch: Prithvi Shaw’s Unfortunate Hit Wicket Dismissal Mars Promising Northamptonshire Debut

Prithvi Shaw’s first match for Northamptonshire didn’t go exactly as planned. He played really well, scoring 34 runs off 35 balls, including two fours and a six. But things took a strange turn when he got dismissed in a rather unusual way.

So, he was playing against Gloucestershire in the Metro Bank One Day Cup 2023 on August 4th. Prithvi Shaw is an Indian player, and he joined Northamptonshire, following in the footsteps of Bishan Singh Bedi, Sourav Ganguly, and Anil Kumble, who also played for the club.

During the match at the College Ground in Cheltenham, Prithvi Shaw was doing a good job in chasing down a target of 279 runs. He was batting confidently, but then on the last ball of the 16th over, something unexpected happened. The bowler, Paul van Meekeren, bowled a really fast and fierce ball. Prithvi Shaw couldn’t get his bat on it, lost his balance, and accidentally kicked his own stumps while falling down in the middle of the pitch. It was quite a disappointing way to get out, especially since Northamptonshire was struggling.

Prithvi Shaw’s journey hasn’t been all smooth sailing. He had some troubles with his batting form, especially in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He came to England with the hope of reviving his cricketing career and making a case for his return to the national team. Unfortunately, this hit wicket dismissal won’t help his cause in impressing the national selectors. But, he still has more chances to prove himself in the ongoing Metro Bank One Day Cup 2023.
