[WATCH] Wanindu Hasaranga and Waqar Salamkheil’s Heated Exchange in ILT20 Match

During the International League T20 match between Desert Vipers and MI Emirates on Sunday, February 4, two prominent spinners from Asia, Wanindu Hasaranga and Waqar Salamkheil, engaged in a heated exchange. The incident occurred in the seventh over of the Vipers’ innings at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

Waqar Salamkheil bowled the first over after the powerplay ended. He managed to dismiss Wanindu Hasaranga caught behind on the final ball of the over and showed his excitement after taking the wicket. However, Hasaranga, disappointed with losing his wicket, reacted to Salamkheil’s celebrations.

Before heading back to the dressing room, Hasaranga exchanged intense words and glances with Salamkheil. Commentators suggested that the celebrations by the MI Emirates bowler were excessive.

Desert Vipers struggled at 45/6 after seven overs in their run-chase of 189 after Hasaranga’s dismissal. Despite the odds, Ali Naseer’s unbeaten 63-run knock helped the Vipers reach 158/8 in 20 overs. However, MI Emirates emerged victorious by 30 runs.

MI Emirates’ Afghan bowlers Fazalhaq Farooqi and Waqar Salamkheil played crucial roles in their team’s win. Farooqi took 4 wickets for 31 runs in his four overs, while Salamkheil bowled an impressive spell of 1 wicket for 30 runs.

Additionally, Akeal Hosain, Trent Boult, and Odean Smith also contributed with a wicket each as MI Emirates secured their spot in the ILT20 2024 playoffs. Nicholas Pooran’s quickfire 39 runs off just 15 deliveries earlier in the match guided MI to a total of 188/5 in 20 overs. Pooran was awarded the Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.
