IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill’s Missed Opportunity

On Day 4 of the third Test between India and England in Rajkot, Shubman Gill, the young Indian batsman, came agonizingly close to scoring a century but fell short by just nine runs. It was a heartbreak for Gill as he was run-out despite putting in a full-length dive, leaving him devastated.

Gill’s Role in the Partnership

Gill, usually an aggressive batsman, played a more subdued role while batting alongside Kuldeep Yadav, who was acting as the nightwatchman. Starting from his overnight score of 65, Gill ensured that India didn’t lose any early wickets as he built a promising partnership with Kuldeep on the crucial fourth day of the match.

Shubman Gill’s Run-Out Incident

In the 64th over, Kuldeep attempted to take on Tom Hartley but could only manage to hit the ball towards the mid-on region. Gill, who had ventured far down the pitch, urged the non-striker to go for a single. However, England captain Ben Stokes was quick to field the ball and threw it accurately to the non-striker’s end. Gill, realizing the danger a bit late, attempted a desperate dive but was unable to beat the throw, resulting in his dismissal.

Gill’s Redemption in the Second Innings

Despite the disappointment of missing out on a century, Gill made a strong comeback in the second innings with a well-compiled knock. This was a significant turnaround after he was dismissed for a duck in the first innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Return to Bat

Following Gill’s dismissal, Yashasvi Jaiswal returned to the crease. Jaiswal, who had to retire hurt due to a niggle towards the end of Day 3, resumed his innings with the intention of building on his score and extending India’s lead.

Current Situation of the Game

As of the latest update, Team India stands at 258-4 after 72 overs, with Kuldeep Yadav being the most recent batsman to be dismissed. The lead is nearing the 400-run mark, and with six wickets still in hand, India is firmly in control of the game.

Ashwin’s Expected Return

The Indian team will receive a boost with the imminent return of Ravichandran Ashwin, who had to leave Rajkot due to a family medical emergency. His presence is anticipated to further strengthen India’s position in the match, particularly with his expertise as an off-spinner.
