Vaughan Strikes Again: The Kohli-Hafeez Banter Heats Up on Social Media

Former English cricketer Michael Vaughan and Mohammad Hafeez, the ex-Pakistan cricketer, continued their banter on X, formerly known as Twitter, with Vaughan sharing a humorous picture. The image featured Virat Kohli dismissing Hafeez during the 2012 T20 World Cup game between India and Pakistan.

Vaughan playfully questioned Hafeez, suggesting that perhaps being clean-bowled by Kohli was the reason behind Hafeez’s frequent banter aimed at the former Indian captain. The caption read, “Seems to me @MHafeez22 you were bowled by @imVkohli!!! Is this the reason you constantly have a pop at him… 😜😜 #CWC2023 #India #Pakistan.”

Earlier in the day, Hafeez had taken a dig at Vaughan when praising England all-rounder Ben Stokes for his century against the Netherlands. Hafeez, while appreciating Stokes, indirectly aimed at Virat Kohli, emphasizing the ‘selfless’ nature of Stokes’ innings.

“Saviour of the ship @benstokes38 😍👍🏼 Good 💯 under pressure anchoring the innings where required with aggressive intent to get Maximum runs for the team to win at the end. Sheer example to differentiate Selfish vs Selfless approach @MichaelVaughan #ENGvNED #CWC23.”

This led to a response from Vaughan, who had previously criticized Hafeez for his comments on Virat Kohli’s century against South Africa. Vaughan dismissed Hafeez’s notion that Kohli played a ‘selfish’ innings, adding another layer to the banter between the two cricketers on social media.

“Come on @MHafeez22 !!! India have hammered 8 teams playing great cricket .. @imVkohli now has 49 tons and his last was an anchor role innings on a tricky pitch .. His team won by over 200 !!!! This is utter nonsense .. #CWC2023 #India #Pakistan.”
