India claimed a commanding 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the first Test at Chennai, taking a 1-0 lead in the series. The match saw India’s bowlers, particularly Ravichandran Ashwin, excel as they crushed Bangladesh’s batting lineup on the fourth day. While Bangladesh showed signs of resilience early on, they eventually succumbed to the Indian spinners, who made life difficult for the visitors in favorable home conditions.

Starting the day with hopes of saving the match, Bangladesh relied on their captain Shakib Al Hasan and well-set batter Najmul Hossain Shanto. The pair survived the pace attack led by Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah, showing patience and composure in the face of a hostile bowling unit. However, once Ashwin was introduced into the attack, the dynamic of the game shifted rapidly in India’s favor.

A Battle of Patience and Skill in IND vs BAN test

In the first hour of play, the Bangladeshi batters showed grit, blocking and defending India’s pace attack effectively. Mohammed Siraj bowled with intensity, using his angles to unsettle Shanto, while Shakib remained calm under pressure. Both batters navigated India’s varied attack, which included deliveries from Jadeja and Bumrah. It seemed like Bangladesh was set for a fightback, but Ashwin’s introduction into the game changed everything. His local knowledge of the pitch and his excellent spin bowling led to Bangladesh’s downfall.

Ashwin’s Six-Wicket Haul Seals the Deal

Ashwin, playing on his home ground in Chennai, was the standout performer. He triggered Bangladesh’s collapse with his masterful spin bowling, dismissing key players and breaking important partnerships. Ashwin claimed six wickets, making sure Bangladesh had no room for recovery. His bowling was complemented by Jadeja, who chipped in with crucial breakthroughs. Together, the Indian spinners sent Bangladesh packing, leaving them unable to withstand the pressure.

Bangladesh’s Last Stand Falls Apart

The partnership between Shakib and Shanto was broken in the 52nd over, with Ashwin drawing an edge from the Bangladeshi captain. Once Shakib was dismissed, the rest of the batting lineup crumbled. Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan, and Shanto himself fell in quick succession, as India’s spinners worked their magic. Despite a brief resistance, Bangladesh’s innings folded for 233, as Ravindra Jadeja ended the match by bowling Hasan Mahmud, sealing a 280-run win for India.
