In cricket, Decision Review System (DRS) calls can make or break a player’s innings. Virat Kohli’s refusal to review an LBW decision in the first Test against Bangladesh became a point of discussion on Day 2. India’s star batter was given out for just 17 runs off 37 balls, with the ball hitting his front pad off a delivery from Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Though Shubman Gill, Kohli’s batting partner at the time, urged him to go for the DRS, Kohli walked off without reviewing. Unfortunately, UltraEdge later showed a spike, indicating the decision could have been overturned, which left fans and experts discussing Kohli’s missed opportunity.

This moment became the talk of social media, with a viral video showing Gill asking Kohli to go for the review, only to see the senior player decline. As Kohli walked off the field, India captain Rohit Sharma’s surprised reaction to the situation also caught attention. Fans were quick to point out that the decision not to use the DRS ended up being a mistake, as UltraEdge proved there was a clear spike when the ball passed Kohli’s bat.

Virat Kohli Dismissed LBW

In India’s second innings, the match saw Virat Kohli being dismissed early. It was the 20th over, and Kohli attempted to play a flick shot against a full delivery from Mehidy Hasan. However, the ball struck Kohli on the front pad, leading the Bangladesh players to appeal. The on-field umpire agreed, and Kohli was ruled out LBW. Despite Shubman Gill’s suggestion to review, Kohli chose to trust the umpire’s call and walked back to the pavilion. In hindsight, had he taken the review, Kohli might have continued his innings, given that replays showed a faint edge.

The dismissal was significant as Kohli was the third Indian wicket to fall in their second innings. After Rohit Sharma was caught at slips for just five runs and Yashasvi Jaiswal fell for 10, Kohli’s wicket left India at a slightly tricky position of 81/3 at stumps on Day 2.

India’s Lead Strengthened by Bowling Brilliance and Key Contributions

Earlier in the day, India had a solid lead after their first innings score of 376, thanks to valuable contributions from their bowlers and tailenders. Jasprit Bumrah’s exceptional spell saw him take 4 wickets for just 50 runs, while Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, and Akash Deep provided solid support with two wickets each. Bangladesh was bundled out for 149 in just 47.1 overs, and India, with a strong lead of 308 runs, went into stumps on Day 2 with Gill unbeaten on 33 and Rishabh Pant on 12.

This Test match is proving to be an intense battle between bat and ball, with both teams showing moments of brilliance, though India continues to dominate. Kohli’s decision to avoid the DRS may have been an error in judgment, but with a solid lead, India remains in control of the game.
